Explore over 30 restored buildings and ruins—including the Penitentiary, Separate Prison, Convict Church, and Isle of the Dead—while knowledgeable guides bring the site’s powerful stories to life through immersive daytime walking tours and included Carnarvon Bay cruises.
As evening falls, step into the shadows with the spine‑tingling lantern-lit Ghost Tour, a 90‑minute after‑dark experience (departing most evenings between 6 – 9 pm depending on season) that takes you through over 2 km of eerie ruins. Just a short drive from Stewarts Bay Lodge, immerse yourself in the world‑first Tasmanian Devil Unzoo, an innovative wildlife sanctuary without fences or traditional enclosures. This immersive experience invites wild and resident native animals—such as hand‑fed forester kangaroos, wallabies, rosellas, honeyeaters, echidnas, and even Tasmanian devils—into natural bushland habitats, allowing you to observe wildlife behaving as nature intended
Open daily from 9 am, the Unzoo offers guided bushland walks and wildlife presentations, including daily Tasmanian devil feedings and “Birds of the Bush” shows Tours typically take around 90 minutes to two hours; you’re encouraged to arrive early to explore or combine your visit with the premium Devil Tracker Adventure, which includes a guided 4WD tour into nearby forests using infrared cameras to monitor wild devil populations—especially for children aged 8 and up
